I don't imagine they want to end up in a situation like that of MLB where every record set since the early nineties is, essentially, marked with an asterisk. Also, while the drug testing is a rather large sacrifice of freedom, Boonen chose to be paid to be a billboard. There are plenty of vocations out there that won't place such onerous restrictions on your lifestyle. Orthogonal to any of that "I drank too much in Belgium, where there's a lot of coke" ranks right up there with, "I tripped and my penis landed in her vagina" in the pantheon of improbable excuses.
